This was the goulash recipe that I grew up up with as a kid. If I came home to the delicious smell of beef, noodles and tomato sauce cooking… I knew we were having goulash! Thankfully, it’s also my favorite goulash recipe.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
3 cups water
1/2 onion
1 clove garlic
2 (14.5 oz) cans diced tomatoes
1 (6 oz) tomato paste
2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
1 teaspoon chili powder
16 oz elbow macaroni noodles
1 tsp Italian seasoning
salt & pepper to taste
1 cup parmesan cheese
Directions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the beef. Add onion and cook for ten minutes until the onions are translucent. Add garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- In a large pot, add water, tomato paste, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, chili powder, Italian seasoning and salt & pepper into the meat mixture and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer to 20, stir several times.
- Stir elbow macaroni noodles, into the mixture, cover and simmer on low heat until the pasta is al dente, about 20-25 minutes. Remove from heat, season with salt & pepper and parmesan cheese. Enjoy!
Notes
- Serve with garlic bread and a salad!
