Ingredients

  • 8 large eggs

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • medium bowl of ice water

Directions

  • Fill a saucepan about half way with cold water. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt (this helps prevent cracking and makes the egg easier to peel). Heat the pot on high heat and instantly place the eggs in a single layer at the bottom of the pan. Make sure the eggs are covered by about two inches of water.
  • Once the eggs come to a rolling boil, reduce the heat to medium – high heat. If you keep the heat on high it can cause cracking of the eggs. Continue cooking 15 minutes.
  • While the eggs are cooking, fill a medium bowl halfway full with water and ice to create an ice bath for the eggs, set aside.
  • Once the timer goes off, immediately remove the eggs and place into the ice bath (this helps prevent cracking eggs). Leave in the water for about 3 minutes. Then peel the eggs.

Notes

  • * Adding a teaspoon of vinegar to the boiling water may help keep egg whites from running out if an egg cracks while cooking.
  • * I find this recipe works like a charm every time for me. Depending on your altitude and the size of the eggs timing may vary.
